How to log a flare one-handed

Built for the worst minute, not the best.

Logging a flare one-handed means capturing the worst minutes with the smallest possible interaction. Flare mode is a timer with five big steps and nothing else, operable in the dark in under a minute. Nothing needs typing and one decision fills each screen. Later, when the wave passes, the entry stands complete without any cleanup.

1. 1. Start the flare timer

   Open flare mode when the wave hits and let the timer mark the start. Five big steps follow, each needing a single tap with a thumb. The layout works one-handed in the dark in under a minute. Do not aim for completeness; aim for a timestamped trace that later entries can extend.

   

2. 2. Give one score, one mark

   Enter a pain score and a mark on the body map showing where it hurts and what kind of pain it is. One decision per screen keeps thumbs moving when thinking stalls. Nothing needs typing at any point. The pair of score plus place carries most of what the later report needs.

   

3. 3. Stop when the steps end

   Close the entry when the five steps run out, even mid-flare. Today's square is waiting with no pressure and no streaks, so a partial entry still counts fully. Anything missed can be added later from memory, skipping what cannot be placed. Rest now; the record keeps what you gave it.

4. 4. Forgive the gaps

   Nothing here guilts, with no streak, no count of missed days and no confetti. A gap in the data is rendered neutrally, never as a failure. Flares are the reason the quick path exists, not an interruption of it. The next calm day simply continues the record where the flare left off.
